Easy Vinyl Tile Installation
In recent years, vinyl floor tiles have become extremely popular due to their durability, easy cleaning, and low price. Now they are easy to install as well.
Originally, all vinyl floor tiles and sheeting was applied by setting them into a bed of mastic adhesive applied to the floor. This process was difficult and very messy. It frustrated a whole generation of homeowners who attempted a DIY makeover of their floors. Today, quick install tiles are available in a wide variety of colors and styles and have brought installation very much back into the realm of the DIY home owner.
The tiles have the glue or adhesive applied at the factory and then covered with a thin paper sheet for protection. The paper sheet can easily be peeled off and the tile placed into position and pressed firmly and you are ready to move on to the next tile. The vinyl peel and stick tiles are easily cut for fitting. They are cut before the backing is removed and the cut and fitted pieces can be applied in the same easy manner as full pieces.
There are very few problems associated with peel and stick tiles. Some people have reported that they tend to slide when placed in very high traffic areas. This can usually be prevented by using a bit of extra adhesive on the tiles in these areas. It is also helpful to make sure the floor has been cleaned and is smooth to insure maximum contact with the adhesive. In some applications thin sheets of plywood are put in place over the existing flooring to provide a base for the tiles.
Peel and stick tiles are also used for various wall applications. They come in such a wide variety of colors and patterns that very stylish and unique patterns can be made on either floors or walls. The price range of peel and stick tiles can vary from around 75 cents a tile to a bit over $3 for each one. It is best to avoid the most inexpensive ones when being used in a floor that will have a lot of traffic, but they are ideal for such low traffic areas as guest bathrooms and pantry areas.
Vinyl is not the only material that uses peel and stick application. Ceramic tiles are also available in peel and stick and make walls or counter tops an easy project. The days when the installation of tiles required a lot of effort and mess are past. The peel and stick tile has made tile flooring possible on just about any budget and has opened up floors to an incredible variety of designs that can be done with little effort by just about anyone.
