My Thoughts on the Laws of Attraction
Most people who do not believe in the law of attraction believe two falsehoods about the Laws of Attraction. They believe that all you do is stand in front of your mirror and chant. That because you chant your affirmations that things will happen. Who can blame them people for believing that.
All of the sales literature for the books, movies and speaking programs almost unive2238rsally make it sound like you don't need to do any work to achieve your dreams. If that was true every MLMer would be driving a Lexus instead of their 6 year old Honda. You must work and be open to the gifts/opportunities that are set in front of you.
You Must Act
Many people believe that all you have to do is sit and think happy thoughts and everything that they ever dreamed of will drop in their lap without doing anything. It's like the old story about the person who is stuck in their house during a flood. The water's rising and someone comes by in a truck and offers to take them, and they say no, the Lord will protect me." Then the water gets higher and they are on the second floor of their house and a boat comes by and they say, "No the Lord will protect me." Finally a helicopter comes right before their house is going to wash away and they wave it off saying." The Lord will protect me." When this individual arrives at the pearly gates he asks Peter why God had forsaken him, and Peter can only reply, "He sent a truck, a boat and a helicopter what else did you expect?"
Now most of us are not as obtuse as the gentleman in the story, but many times we have opportunities presented to us that are not "exactly" as we were hoping for and we must learn to act on those opportunities that are offered to us. Act on these gifts because they may grow into what we truly desire.
Focus on the Good and forget about the Bad.
I believe that the second biggest piece of the Laws of Attraction is that we learn to focus on the good not just focus on the bad. To paraphrase Tony Robbins you can't look at your garden and say there's "No weeds, there's no weeds, there's no weeds" and expect the weeds to go away. You do have to act by pulling the weeds out. BUT then you move on, you do not obsess about "why the Lord put weeds in my garden." You focus on the good things that are going to happen; the wonderful flowers or vegetables that you will get from your garden.
By focusing on the good rather than the bad we open ourselves up to so much more of what is good in our lives.
